Flowers for Lucy

Why do the unsettling things stay with us in grief
The life of someone is kept alive by those around them
and death slows down urgency
‘I wish I could ask her what she thought about that’
How she moves and occupies all available space
The mother, sister, bystander
Air in suburbia, moves slowly like water
as we sink into a partiality for flowers and ageing decor,
it offers recline as its sole pleasure
